Landlord Registration Required
Any person or persons owning or exercising control of any building that is offered for rent as housing space for living or dwelling purposes, whether by written or oral lease, is required under N.J.S.A. 46:8-27 through 46:8-37 to file a LANDLORD REGISTRATION CERTIFICATE with the Township Clerk. The Landlord is required to file an Amended Registration Certificate within 20 days after any change occurs in the information on file. The law also requires the Landlord provide a copy of the Registration Certificate and/or Amended Certificates to each occupant or tenant. Owner-occupied 2-unit premises are excluded from these requirements. A penalty of not more than $500.00 for each violation of any provision of N.J.S.A. 46:8-27 through 46:8-37 is recoverable in Superior Court or municipal court by a summary proceeding under “the penalty enforcement law (N.J.S.2A:58-1 et seq.).
